1. Getting started
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Find Aurel in your theme library and click Customize to open the theme editor.
- Before publishing, add your logo, colors and menus (see the sections below), then preview your store on desktop and mobile.
- When you are happy with it, click Publish.
Recommended setup:
- Create a menu with the handle
main-menufor the header and one with the handlefooterfor the footer (Content > Menus). Aurel uses these by default. - Install Shopify's free Search & Discovery app to manage collection filters and complementary product recommendations.
- Upload product images at least 1500 px wide. Portrait images (4:5) match the default product card shape.
2. Theme settings
Open the theme editor and click the gear icon (Theme settings).
Logo and favicon
- Logo – upload a PNG or SVG. Any aspect ratio works.
- Desktop logo width – controls the logo size in the header (60–300 px).
- Favicon image – shown in the browser tab, scaled to 32 × 32 px.
Colors
Aurel uses color schemes. Each scheme has a background, background gradient, text, buttons and accents, button text, secondary text, borders and surface color. Three schemes are included: light (scheme 1), sand (scheme 2) and wine (scheme 3). Every section has a Color scheme setting so you can choose which scheme it uses. You can also set the sale badge background and text colors.
Tip: keep strong contrast between text and background colors so your store stays readable and accessible.
Typography
- Heading font and Body font – choose any font from the Shopify font library. Bold and italic styles load automatically.
- Heading size and Body size – scale text up or down.
Layout
- Page width – maximum width of page content.
- Product image ratio – Portrait, Square or Natural (uses each image's original shape).
- Show second image on hover – shows the second product image when a customer hovers over a product card.
- Show vendor – displays the product vendor on product cards.
Cart
- Enable cart note – lets customers add special instructions.
- Enable discount code field – lets customers enter discount codes in the cart.
Search
- Enable search suggestions – shows products, pages and suggested searches as customers type.
Social media
Add links to your Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube and X (Twitter) accounts. Icons appear in the footer and the mobile menu for every link you fill in.
3. Header and footer
Announcement bar
Add up to three announcements, each with an optional link. Choose a color scheme for the bar.
Header
- Menu – choose the navigation menu. Menus can be up to three levels deep; nested items open as dropdowns on desktop and expandable lists on mobile.
- Logo position on large screens – Center or Left.
- Enable sticky header – keeps the header visible while scrolling.
- Enable country/region selector and Enable language selector – shown when your store sells in more than one country or language.
The header includes search, the cart icon with item count, and the Shopify customer account button (shown when customer accounts are turned on in Settings > Customer accounts).
Email signup
Shown above the footer by default. Edit the eyebrow, heading and text. Each signup creates a customer in Shopify tagged newsletter.
Footer
Add blocks for Brand information (logo, text and social icons), Menu, Text, Image, or app blocks. Footer settings let you show payment icons, policy links, Follow on Shop (requires Shop Pay), and country and language selectors.
4. Homepage and page sections
Every page that supports sections lets you click Add section to use any of these:
- Image banner – large image with eyebrow, heading, text and up to two buttons. Layouts: text left with image right, image left with text right, or text over a full-width image (with adjustable overlay). Set a focal point on the image in the image picker to control cropping.
- Image with text – image beside eyebrow, heading, text and buttons; choose which side the image appears on.
- Featured collection – product grid from any collection, with columns for desktop and mobile and an optional "View all" link.
- Featured product – one product with price, variant picker, quantity, buy buttons and app blocks.
- Collection list – cards for selected collections. If a collection has no image, the first product image is used.
- Multicolumn – columns with image, heading, text and link (for example, brand values).
- Rich text – headings, text and buttons, centered or left-aligned.
- Video – a Shopify-hosted video or a YouTube/Vimeo link.
- Email signup – newsletter form.
- Contact form – customer contact form.
- Custom Liquid – add your own code or app snippets.
- Apps – add app blocks from installed apps.
5. Product page
Open a product in the theme editor (use the page selector at the top of the editor). The Product information section is made of blocks you can add, remove and reorder:
- Vendor, Title, Text
- Price – shows sale and compare-at prices, unit prices, tax and shipping notes, and Shop Pay Installments when eligible.
- SKU and Inventory status – with a low-stock threshold.
- Variant picker – Buttons or Dropdown. Selecting a variant updates the price, availability and featured image (assign variant images in the product admin).
- Quantity selector – respects quantity rules for B2B.
- Buy buttons – Add to cart plus optional dynamic checkout buttons (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal and more). Subscription options appear automatically for products with selling plans. Gift card products can show a recipient form so customers can send the gift card to someone else.
- Description and Collapsible row – rows can use text you type or content from a page.
- Share – copy link, Facebook, X and Pinterest.
- Complementary products – "Pairs well with" products set up in the Search & Discovery app.
- Custom Liquid and app blocks.
The gallery supports images, Shopify-hosted videos, YouTube and Vimeo videos and 3D models (with "View in your space" on supported devices). Store pickup availability is shown when local pickup is enabled for a location.
The Related products section below shows automatic recommendations based on your store's sales data.
6. Collections, filters and search
- Collection banner – shows the collection title, description and image (falls back to the first product image).
- Product grid – products per page, columns on desktop and mobile, filtering and sorting.
- Filters are managed in the Search & Discovery app (availability, price, product type, vendor, tags, variant options and metafields). On mobile, filters open with the Filter button.
- Search results include products, pages and blog posts, with the same filtering and sorting options.
7. Cart
The cart page updates quantities without reloading, shows line-item and order discounts, unit prices, subscription details and product options. It includes the optional order note and discount code field, the estimated total with tax notes, Check out, and dynamic checkout buttons. App blocks and Custom Liquid can be added below the cart.
8. Countries, currencies and languages
Add countries and currencies in Settings > Markets and languages in Settings > Languages. Turn on the selectors in the Header and Footer sections. Theme text can be translated in Online Store > Themes > ⋯ > Edit default theme content or with the Translate & Adapt app.
9. Frequently asked questions
How do I change the homepage text and images?
Open the theme editor, click a section on the homepage, and edit its blocks and settings in the sidebar.
Why don't I see filters on my collection page?
Filters appear when your store has filters set up in the Search & Discovery app and the collection contains products matching them. Check that Enable filtering is turned on in the Product grid section.
Why is the "Pairs well with" block empty?
Complementary products must be added for each product in the Search & Discovery app. The block hides itself when there are none.
How do I show a different image when a variant is selected?
In the product admin, click a variant and assign an image to it.
Can I use a dropdown menu?
Yes. In Content > Menus, drag menu items under another item to nest them. Aurel supports three levels.
How do I add a size chart or ingredients list?
Add a Collapsible row block to the product page and type the content, or select a page that holds it.
Where are my email signups saved?
In Customers, tagged newsletter and subscribed to email marketing.
Will updating the theme remove my customizations?
Theme updates from the Theme Store keep your theme editor settings. Changes made directly in the code editor are not carried over, so keep a record of any code edits.
How do I make my store faster?
Compress large images before uploading, avoid installing apps you don't use, and limit the number of products shown in homepage sections.
